Q: Does the museum have on hand the Audie Murphy’s dress Medal of Honor (the 1904 Gillespie-style medal worn around the neck? I am not referring to the bar-ribbon worn above the military coat/shirt pocket.
Discussion: The Audie Murphy Veteran’s Memorial Hospital use to have this medal. It was loaned to them by the family when the AM Veteran’s Hospital opened. It is no longer on display. They state they sent everything to the AM Cotton Museum. No one at the hospital can produce any documentation stating that it was transported. I am wondering if it was stolen or put on display with the AM Cotton Museum. I have checked with Larryann Willis (attorney/Audie Murphy Research Foundation) and she recently indicated to me that she believe the museum had the medal. Can you please confirm?
Sorry I just now saw this. I’m still not used to our new website messaging stuff. We have a medal of honor that came from the hospital with the uniform but I assumed it was a reproduction since his name is not engraved on the back. I thought the original one was?
Thanks,

My name is Richard Krause and I painted 7 portraits of Audie and they were all on exhibit at your museum back in 2001 when I came down to Greenville for their unveiling. I see at the very beginning of your video that the portrait in his dress uniform is on the wall beside the narrator. I was wondering if any of the other 6 are still on display. If so, could you email me snapshots of them at their present locations. I’ve included the address on my website where photos of the paintings are, so as to help you identify them. Keep up the good work, Richard
