Hi Diana , my wife, Jenelle Armstrong Byrd, is the sculptor of the Audie Murphy bust. She created a life size bronze bust of Audie originally as a gift to the United States Army’s Sgt Audie Murphy Club for permanent installation in historic Snow Hall at the Artillery School at Fort Sill, OK. She made this gift because we are both dedicated to preserving through our art the legacy of American Valor. Audie Murphy, born and raised just a few miles from Jenelle’s birthplace epitomized American Valor.
There are actually two different versions, one titled SSgt Audie Murphy, shows him as he might have looked as a sergeant before he earned his battle field commission. The other, titled “1st Lt Audie Murphy” is based on a picture of him from the cover of Life Magazine wearing his formal uniform and all of his decorations and awards. The sculptures are cast in synthetic resin with a coating of acrylic paint that contains powdered bronze. The base is solid walnut. On the back is an engraved brass plaque that tells in a few words the story of his MOH action. The sculptures are signed and numbered by Jenelle as an open edition fine art sculpture. Both sculptures are also available cast in bronze and may be ordered thru the museum. The bronze versions are $600. A life size version of the SSgt Audie Murphy is on display now at the Audie Murphy and American Cotton Museum.
