About
Our Mission
The mission of the Audie Murphy/American Cotton Museum is to educate the public and to preserve the history of Hunt County, Texas. Of particular emphasis is the impact of the cotton industry and the historical significance of our military heroes, especially Audie Murphy.
Ende-Gillard House
Visit the historic Ende-Gillard House on the grounds of the Museum. Built from 1857-1859 it is the oldest standing house in Greenville. The first floor is completely furnished and dates back to the late 1800’s.
Hunt County War Memorial
A ten foot bronze statue of Audie Murphy sculpted by Greenville artist Gordon Thomas stands vigil over the war memorial that was dedicated in 2004 to honor the memory of the 271 soldiers of Hunt County who gave their lives to protect and defend the United States in times of war during the 20th Century. As Audie Murphy once stated “The true heroes, the real heroes, are the boys who fought and died, and never will come home.”
Brick Pavers
Engraved brick pavers cover the center floor of the memorial. This is a great opportunity to honor someone. Pavers are available in two sizes (4×8 and 8×8) and cost $50 and $150. Anyone can purchase a paver and choose the engraving to honor or memorialize anyone they choose. Order forms are available by clicking the brick.
