Audie Murphy Days' Salute to the Military

Some of our highlights for Audie Days!

Friday, May 16th at the Fletcher Warren Civic Center
Doors open at 9:00am, Exhibition room opens, program begins at 9:30

Elizabeth McCormick will share her experiences and stories
from her years as a Black Hawk helicopter pilot. As a pilot
she has flown air assault/rappelling training missions;
VIPs like generals, governors and congressmen and women;
command & control battlefield management operations; and
military intelligence missions.

Thomas Petersen, retired Air Force CMSgt., will relate his
experiences in flying more than 250 combat support sorties with
over 5,000 flying hours. He will also give an unclassified history
of the "Det" Squardron, a group of active duty Air Force
and government civilians, which has been in Greenville since 1959.

Musical Interludes by the GHS Combined Choirs directed by
Jordan Ricks and the GISD Elementary Honor Choir
directed by Cindy Williams, Jordan Ricks & Donnette Brown.

Beginning at 2:00pm there will be a Film Medley that will include
the Texas Medal of Honor ceremony for Audie and
the Third Division in Korea with a cameo performance that was done by Audie.
A round of Audie Bingo will begin at 5:00pm

Friday night's entertainment will be provided by
Texas Music singer/songwriter R.D. Foster & Mikey "Six-Strings" Sanchez.
Performing together for over 15 years their brand of music
includes a blend of country/western, rock 'n' roll, blues and folk.
R.D.'s songs have been recorded or performed by Texas music legends
such as David AllenCoe, Ray Wylie Hubbard, Will Barned, Ronny Spears,
Bugs Henderson and many others. In honor of Audie they are also
planning on performing at least two of Audie's songs!
Friday night's concert will begin at 7:00pm.
Tickets cost $12 adults, $5 children 5-12 and includes
Spaghetti Dinner from 6:00-7:00pm.

Saturday, May 17th
Morning program at the Fletcher Warren Civic Center
Doors open at 9:30am, Exhibition room opens, program begins at 10:00

Heritage Brass Band - a reenactment band that will dress in
authentic uniforms and play predominantly World War II music with
a little swing thrown in, patriotic medleys and marches. Some of the
music will also include a George M. Cohen medley,
"Battle of the Green Beret" and the "Colonel Bogey March."
Much in demand in Texas, the band has performed for dances, ceremonies,
reenactments, living histories, funerals, parades and movie premiers.

Patriot PAWS - this wonderful organization trains and provides
service dogs at no cost to disabled American veterans and others
with mobile disabilities in order to help restore their physical
and emotional independence. Will be speaking and doing
a demonstration.

Visit the garage apartment Audie lived in during 1941 while
he was working at the Bowen radio repair shop in Greenville.

Afternoon activities move over to the Museum.

Ollie Ledbetter, a boyhood friend of Audie's will share stories
of their times together as children.
An Audie movie will be shown and the evening will end with a
candelight ceremony at the Statue.

The majority of the activities taking place during Audie Days are FREE!
The only costs are for the dinner/concert Friday evening and there
will be a one-time admission fee to go through the museum of
$6 adults, $4 seniors/college students/veterans and $2 6-18 yr. olds.
Re-admittance to the Museum during Audie Days will be free.
All of the activities on Friday and Saturday morning will take place
at the Fletcher Warren Civic Center
, 5501 Hwy 69 South,
and Saturday afternoon and evening activities will move back
over to the Museum.

Visit the Exhibition Room at the Civic Center that will be open all day
Friday and Saturday morning. Lots of Audie Murphy memorabilia
will be on display as well as other items.
